Language and Culture Fundamentals

A course aimed at helping Invitees and Trainees understand the foundations of the Language and Culture Program at PC Colombia as an initial approach.  

Although Volunteers have basic skills in the local language when they go to their sites, their ongoing language learning plan should include using tutors and language informants on a regular basis. Additionally, it should be a resource to help them out how to be a successful language learner taking responsibility for their learning.  

 


Qualifying for Service

This course aims at start providing context about PC COL key pillars for a successful service as well as setting expectations about it. It also includes information about what to expect during Pre-Service Training and some logistic information about admin processes, orientation and training venue. In summary, with this course PC COL hopes that:

1- Invitees will understand about the attitudes that makes up a successful future PCV and will self-evaluate and reflect on their willingness to commit to serve in Colombia and overcome the challenges of PC Service, helping them make an informed final decision on PC service.

2- Invitees will start familiarizing themselves with the norms, policies, competences and expectations of Pre-Service Training.             
3-  Invitees will keep in mind  some recommendations about what to bring and will receive guidance about the logistics and norms during their first days in the country [orientation event].
