This course provides federal agencies and their employees with an overview of obligations and rights under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) regarding leave for individuals who are called to duty in the uniformed services. This course explains several key aspects of USERRA, including who is covered; the obligations of agencies not to discriminate against individuals on the basis of past military service, current military obligations, or an intent to serve; the prohibition against retaliation toward individuals who exercise their rights under USERRA; the right of covered employees to continuation of benefits during service; and the law's requirements for the reinstatement of servicemembers on their return from duty.
