Local Connections Seminar

Our goals for an OCIO-supported, RITS-led, ITS-driven seminar within neighboring time zones are to:

  1. Update ITSs in a uniform, consistent, and tracked manner on OCIO projects and plans.
  2. Strengthen time-zone/regional connections and build peer support networks.
  3. Share best practices and gain the pulse occurring within zones.

The learning objectives are for ITSs and ITAs to be able to report OCIO updates and plans, develop business analysis skills, and compare best practices. The outcome of the Seminar will be a memo to the CIO created collectively by each group with recommendations for what OCIO should start, stop, and continuing doing. The CIO will review and respond in his fall Conversation with the CIO.

We will deliver the same curriculum to six groups of ITSs and ITAs following this timeline and instructional sequence:

·       July  9 - Seminar opens in LearningSpace with information and activities (e.g., case studies and discussion forum, video and PPT) to be completed at your own pace, within your group

·       August 7-9 (groups 1 & 3),  August 14-17 (groups 2 & 4), August 21-23 (groups 3 & 6) - Three consecutive days of time-zone focused discussion facilitated by a Regional IT Specialist (RITS) via Skype for two hours/day (a total of 6 hours). If a Post is planning a staff exchange for their ITS, we recommend it occurs during the week of their group’s Skype session, in order to incorporate the workshop discussion into the staff exchange.  View group assignments.

·       By September 14 – all groups debrief and reflect as a whole at their own pace in LearningSpace (e.g., in discussion forum, share best practices, issues identified).

Target Audience: Overseas IT Specialist and IT Assistants
